Project Scope
The Control System Modernisation project aimed to replace old, discontinued SLC programmable controllers with the latest technology. This included upgrading the existing safety system and replacing the existing line controller with a SIL2 safety-rated processor. The project also involved merging two discontinued controllers into a new or existing line controller, and upgrading and re-wiring all old single safety circuits to PLd SIL2 standards.
The integration of the Allen Bradley system was completed using Studio 5000, with all design, installation, and integration carried out in-house. Safety Limited Speed functions were implemented using a Rockwell Automation CIP Safe Safety Encoder. Additionally, four variable speed drives were replaced with PowerFlex 525s on Ethernet.
